Whispering Voice Records – Page 3 – Whispering Voice Records
Today is the international World Down Syndrome Day, and we here at the office is ‘down with the syndrome’. We wish that everyone have the same opportunity and the same rights, not matter what challenges one might have. Different doesn’t mean less. It means opportunties. #inclusionmeans.
We love to hear your demo, and would love for you to send us what you’ve got. But if you get to that point that you want to send us your demo, please do so yourself. Please do not hire a promotion company, or other company to do it for you.
We receive somewhere between 10 and 50 emails every day. Many of them from companies doing promotions for bands and artists. And we’re not saying promotion is a bad thing, but some of these companies sends us 10-15 emails a day, alone. And we are sure that we’re not the only once on that forward list. So it’s fair to say that these emails are drowning themselves.
When we receive e-mails from these companies, the e-mails end up directly in their own folders marked specifically for each of these pr-companies. They are often automatically marked as read without even being opened. We simply do not have the time or recourse to read that many emails each day, so we have to filter out the companies that sends the most.
And when such companies send out masses of emails like that, it unfortunately has a negative effect on people like us.
So if you really want your album, ep or single to be heard, please send it out yourself. We prioritize those emails, and we always give those emails a respons, wether is good or not.
How?
There are many ways to send us you stuff. Sending all your content directly on an email is not recommended. It will most likely bounce back, seeing as our email server doesn’t allow for larger files to be received by us.
Google drive or Dropbox is a good way. Put your stuff on Google drive or Dropbox and share it with us, and we’ll check it out. Or if you want to have even more control over it, use a file transfering system. Then you will usually also get notified when it has been downloaded by us.
What to send?
Well, you music of course. Even if it’s not done yet. As long as you’re having you tracks mixed and mastered by professionals, we don’t mind hearing the raw tapes.
And we also want to know about the band, your discog and links to your social medias. So send us some notes about that to.
What we don’t need or want
We do not need all your promotion-stuff right of the bat. If we both decide to make a deal, we will take care of that later.
If you have no plans on mixing and mastering your music, we will not most likely not be interested. Mixing and mastering is there for a reason. It makes music bareable to listen to for more then a few minutes. And also, please let the pro’s do that. Mastering your own stuff is more than often a recipe for desaster.
Allready released music… No thank you. Wherever you music might have been uploaded to, YouTube, BandCamp, SoundCloud… If it is uploaded to the internet, it’s allready released. Congrats, you dont need a label. It doesn’t matter if the place you uploaded it to is free for all, or that you can just take it down. Your music is allready registered as a self-release. Our label do not promote self-releases. So if your music is uploaded anywhere that is open to the public ear, Whispering Voice Records will not be interested. We only operate with unreleased music.
Half-composed ideas. As we stated earlier, we don’t mind listening to raw tapes as long as you have plans to mix and master it, professionally. As long as you know that your recording-stage is done. That being said, some riffs thrown together in a rehearsing-rom is not it. If you’re music is done and ready to go on to the next stage, which would be the mixing/mastering stage, THEN you’ve finished the recording, and we’ll be more than eager to listen.
We stand by the Ukrainian people and their rights to sovereignity. Music is about creating connections between people. War is the opposite. We condemn war and the actions of the Russian government against the Ukrainian people.
We will not stop exporting music to the Russian people, as we do not have the impression that this is the action of the Russian people, but of a leader that seeks only power for himself and does not have the Russian people interests at heart.
Unfortunately, this might result in shipping being delayed, as the airspace is closed for most countries. We hope this agression will end swiftly and that we will be able to ship music to our Russian listeners soon.
We are co-organizer for the dark Norwegian metalfestival Northern Deception, which is taking place 18th and 19th of march, next year. The festival is taking place in Kristiansand (Norway), at the Theatre.
We are excited to announce that we have started selling the metal magazine Metalegion, in our webstore. For now we have issue 5 to 9 in our store, and issue #10 will be available somewhere in november.
We’re closing in on release of Arvas’s sixth album ‘VI’, and for that reason we’re having sale on all cd’s in our store.
By using the code ‘Arvas4ever‘ you’ll get 15% off on all cd’s in our store, on your first purchase. So don’t miss the chance of getting your copy of VI or one of the other albums in our store, for a lower price.
In a series of posts we will discuss what you as an artist should expect from the label you are signing up with. And even though we should be starting with the obvious, which is the contract, or agreement, this part is so extensive that we’re saving that for later. Before we get into contract-making, we feel it might be nice to have a little knowledge about some other stuff that is usefull to know before signing any deal. One of them being;
Promotion
There are a few minimum requirements that a recordlabel should provide their artists. One of them being promotion. Perhaps one of the most important one Unless you’re allready a major selling artist, music simply does not sell itself. It needs to be promoted, and it need to be promoted well.
Here at Whispering Voice Records we do our very best for all artists under our wings. We do so not only by operating with independent promoteurs all over the world, but we do so by doing targeted and effectful promotion. This means that we do not simply put a post up on Facebook and expect big results. In order to reach out we to the research first.
Finding out what media has the best chance of reaching your type of audience, for the music you are releasing, is something we are really good at.
But have the knowling of what to spend, and where, is often a result of trial and error, AND a learning skill.
This is not done in a day, even if the label have used the same promoters before. No artists are ever the same, and neither is the music. Using the same promotion-tactics on all rleases will surely fail, sooner or later.
A label that isn’t willing to spend the least amount of money on promoting your music, is a label that has no faith in it
Remember, no good promotion is ever free. Putting adds in different magazines, webzines and even radio, costs money. But doing this right can mean the difference between cash and trash. And a label that isn’t willing to spend the least amount of money on promoting your music, is a labe that has no faith in your music. Then you become just another rooster-filler.
For some labels, it’s all about the numbers-game. The quanta. The more music a label can release, the more dineros they can cash out. But for each band it amounds to such a small amount that it doesn’t even cover the cost of publishing. In other words, the band doesn’t see a dime.
So before signing with a label, you should make sure to ask them what kind of promotion they do. It’s a fair question, and it should have a fair answer.
Since the release of ‘Equanimity’ the band has been working on their new album. They released the single ‘Silent Night’ in november 20, which is also a track in the new album. The album is featuring 12 strong, and hard hitting track, and might be some of the hardest they’ve released so far.
The album is set to be release on september 17th this year, and presales will be available on the 6th of september. Track list for ‘VI’ :
